About The Neighborhood

Snow Hill's History and What It Means for Your Concrete

The community began around 1840 as Free Haven, a stop on the Underground Railroad, called Snow Hill by about 1867, then Lawnton, then Lawnside around 1907.

According to the Peter Mott House museum, the name came from the white sugar sand on the hilltop, visible from far away once the trees were cut.

Peter Mott, a free Black farmer, built his house here around 1845. It is now a museum on Kings Court, on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1926, Lawnside became the first independent African American municipality north of the Mason-Dixon line, covering just 1.43 square miles with 2,955 residents in 2020.

Mount Pisgah AME Church and Mount Peace Cemetery are also part of that story, and the sandy ground behind the name still shapes how a slab is built here.

Services

Concrete Services for Snow Hill Homes

Loose, sandy ground and years of weather lead to a few common problems. Here is the concrete work Snow Hill homeowners ask us about.

Driveways That Stay Level

When sand under a driveway shifts, the slab cracks and dips. We excavate, add and compact a stone sub-base, then pour a 4500 PSI mix.

Sunken Walkways

Walks often sink where rain has washed sand out from below. We lift out the bad sections, rebuild the base and slope the new walk away from the house.

Entry Steps That Pull Away

A step that pulls away from the house is a trip hazard. We form and pour new steps with even risers on solid footing.

Shed and Backyard Slabs

A shed or grill area on bare sand will lean in time. We pour slabs on a packed base so the load spreads evenly.

Concrete Removal

Some yards have old slabs nobody uses anymore. We break them out, haul the debris away and leave the area graded.

Why Papaneri & Sons

Why Snow Hill Homeowners Choose Papaneri & Sons

Papaneri & Sons is a family business that dates back to 1987. Mario Sr, Mario Jr and Nick work the jobs, and Denise keeps the office running.

Bases Built for Sandy Ground

Sand drains well but moves easily, so we grade and compact the sub-base before any concrete goes down.

Drainage Planned Before the Pour

Water running across sand carries it away, so during the estimate we look at where rain flows and pitch the new concrete to match.

Borough Permits Filed for You

Work in Snow Hill goes through the Borough of Lawnside Construction Office. Denise pulls the permits and books inspections.

Right Next Door in Cherry Hill

Lawnside and Cherry Hill share a border. That short drive keeps estimates quick and makes follow-up visits easy.

4500 PSI Mix and ACI Standards

We pour a stronger 4500 PSI mix and follow ACI practices for joints and curing. Customers give us a 4.7 star rating across 140+ reviews.

Good Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Concrete Work in Snow Hill

Is Snow Hill part of Lawnside?

Yes, Snow Hill is a section of the Borough of Lawnside in Camden County, known by that name before it took the Lawnside name around 1907.

Does the sandy soil in Snow Hill affect a new driveway?

Yes, sand can shift or wash out if the base is weak. We dig out the soft material, add stone and compact it in layers so the driveway does not crack or dip.

Who handles concrete permits for a Snow Hill home?

The Borough of Lawnside Construction Office covers Snow Hill. Our office checks what your project needs and files the permits for you.

Why is my front walk in Snow Hill sinking?

Most often, water has carried sand out from under the slab, and patching the top will not fix that. We replace the sunken sections and rebuild the base.

Can you pour a shed slab in a sandy Snow Hill backyard?

Yes, shed and backyard slabs are regular jobs for us. We compact a stone base first and size the slab to your shed so it does not lean.

How long does a concrete job in Snow Hill take?

Many driveway replacements are done in a single day. Bigger jobs or permit reviews can add time.
